Miscellaneous

The lighting and decor items presented here represent the most commonly used display elements. However they represent only a portion of the products available which also include (but are by no means limited to) tree spheres, meteor tubes, snowfall lights, snowflakes and other hanging motifs, 2D wall or yard structures, 3D yard structures, wall washers/flood lights, RGB products, bistro lights, permanent lighting, Christmas trees (lit and/or decorated), tower trees, pole trees, laser lights, projections, and many, many more. Because we can even create custom pieces, the options available are limited only by your imagination.

Bushes

While they may not be as awe-inspiring as trees, decorating individual bushes or entire hedge rows with lights can be a very economical approach to adding weight and texture to a well-rounded, balanced light display. Mini lights are used almost exclusively in the lighting of bushes, and prices are typically based on the number of strands installed. Varying effects can be achieved by selecting different bushes to light or using different colors.

Trees

Whether they are deciduous (meaning they lose their foliage in autumn) or evergreen (meaning they do not lose their foliage), trees provide a great opportunity for dramatic lighting displays. There are two basic methods of wrapping a tree with lights – “inside” (or “interior”) wraps and “outside” (or “exterior”) wraps. Inside wraps involve wrapping the trunk and/or limbs with lights, while outside wraps focus on hanging light strands around the perimeter of the tree canopy. Mini lights are the most common type of light strand to wrap trees (with pricing based on number of strands used), however some outside wraps successfully make use of larger bulbs with greater spacing on the light strand.

Garland

Like wreaths, garland is versatile and visible during the daytime, not just after dark. It can be used to wrap columns, decorate doors, rails, mantles, entry signs, etc. In addition to strands, garland is available in swags and sprays. Also similar to wreaths, both basic and upgraded varieties are available.

Doors & Windows

Installing lights around the doors and windows of structures can greatly elevate a display. Typically, the same large bulbs used on the roofline (or slightly smaller ones) are used for doors and windows. Because the design and materials of door and window frames varies greatly, clips used to attach lights in most other areas (shingles, gutters, etc.) don’t often work on door or window frames. The remaining methods of attachment (anchors, hooks, staples, hot glue, etc.) can be time consuming or difficult, and in some cases may even leave scars on the surface once lights are removed (for example if staples are required). In some cases, to avoid scarring the surface, lights are attached to frames (of wood or pvc pipes) which are made on site to fit snugly inside the window or door opening. The frames can then be used year after year in the openings for which they were made. For these reasons, adding lights to window and door outlines tends to be expensive.

Wreaths

Wreaths are a versatile decor element, because they come in an array of styles and sizes, well-suited for a variety of locations (windows, doors, tops of columns, railings, gables, etc.). And they can be embellished and customized with numerous add-ons (lights, bows, berry sprays, pine cones, ribbon, ornaments, etc.). Wreaths also offer added value because they provide visible decoration during the daytime, not just after dark. Standard wreath feature just one species of greenery, but upgraded varieties can feature a blend of white pine, balsam, cedar, or Scotch pine, and include varying sizes and shapes of pinecones and berry sprays.

Columns

Wrapping columns with mini light strands can add a great deal of impact to the overall display. Fees for column wraps are based on the number of light strands to be installed per column, as well as the total number of columns selected (if a large number of columns are present, it may be more affordable to wrap only some and exclude others). Some lighting color choices, such as the candy cane design shown in one of the following images, may require more strands than single color designs.

Ground lighting

Ground lighting includes lights (typically the same size as on the roofline) installed several inches above grade using mounting stakes along the outlines of mulch beds, walkways, driveways, etc. Use of ground lighting is an excellent way to “anchor” a display, which creates a custom, professional look. The images below are excellent examples of how ground lighting can greatly improve your display.

Garage Doors

Adding lights (typically the same bulbs used on the roofline) to garage door frames is a great way to enhance the overall display. Note, garage door frame designs and materials vary greatly, therefore light strand attachment methods may include use of clips, anchors, hooks, staples, or even hot glue. The images below illustrate displays which integrate garage door outlines.

Rooflines

Roofline lighting is the most common professional lighting component. Light strands of larger bulbs are attached to the gutters (or fascia/soffit if no gutter is present), to the gable ends (or rake boards), and occasionally to the ridgeline(s) of a roof.

Some gutters and/or gables on a structure are oriented towards the front of the property. These are designated as “Front-Facing” gutters and/or gables. On the same structure, other gutters and/or gables may be oriented towards the rear or left/right side(s). These are designated as “Rear-Facing,” “Right-Facing,” or “Left-Facing.” While the option is available, rear and side oriented gutters and/or gables are not commonly decorated, unless the structure is situated in a way which prominently features them in the primary view of the structure. Additionally, some rooflines may feature “dormers.” A dormer is a window that is typically set vertically on a sloping roof. A dormer has a miniature roof of its own, which may include short sections of gutters, gables, or ridgelines. In some instances, installing lights on dormers enhances the overall display, but other times it is aesthetically better to avoid placing lights on the dormers.

Linda Bowers

Don’t tell Linda there’s anything she can’t do – she will prove you wrong every time. Linda has worked with Michael for more than 20 years, and their relationship goes all the way back to Linda changing Michael’s diapers when he was a baby. She is more than a long time family friend, she is our “office Mom” and she runs the office with her faith, optimism and fair amounts of salt (on everything) and coffee. Those who know Linda never forget her compassion and never-ending love of family and those she makes family.

When she is not managing our office, she can be found running the operations at Victory Gospel Church in Manassas where her husband James Bowers is founder and senior pastor. Linda manages the women’s group at her church and volunteers for Serve, where she prepares and serves meals to homeless families. She loves yard sales and bargain shopping, travel and family. Her home is openly shared with anyone in transition, and it’s usually lively and full of visitors or family as she has 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Michael Sfreddo

Michael was bitten by the “building bug” early in life. As a small boy he collected popsicle sticks and other random materials to build model houses, spaceships, and other structures. With their shared love of design, and Sarah’s passion for all things Christmas, Michael and Sarah recognized custom holiday lighting and decor as a perfect outlet for Michael to create new, beautiful, fun designs which allow him to utilize his creative and unique talents.

Michael is also a remodeling contractor, and he manages his other small company, Third Generation Pest Control. His skills and experiences in these other ventures have proven to be resources which equip The Virginia Christmas Lighting & Decor Company to be the superior choice among custom holiday lighting services.

When Michael isn’t busy working he enjoys family time with his two boys, Gavin and Shepherd, and his wife Sarah. Michael’s sons accompany him on Saturday morning work appointments and thrift store runs, where they enjoy shopping for toys and unique items. He is a member and active participant in Living Faith Church in Manassas, Virginia, where he enjoys volunteering in both the children’s and offering ministries.

Sarah Sfreddo

The Virginia Christmas Lighting & Decor Company is a natural extension and combination of the skills and talents Sarah honed through her experience in housing design/construction and real estate investment, as well as her profound love of all things Jesus (which of course includes the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas). Partnering with her husband Michael, who is trained in design and architecture, produced endless possibilities for magical Christmas displays and designs. When she isn’t running her company, Sarah can be found volunteering in the communities in which she does business. She has a 14 year old son with special needs, which has driven her desire to partner with and serve the special needs community. She loves to assist local special needs organizations, such as the Mclean Bible Church Accessibility Summit, local food pantries (such as SERVE Inc.), and she is a regular volunteer at her church of 6 years, Living Faith Church in Manassas, Virginia.

Sarah also routinely shares her testimony with church groups, freely offering encouragement and sharing the love of Jesus. She has been invited to Mom’s groups, Parent groups, and as a special speaker at local churches, such as Park Valley Church in Haymarket, First Baptist Church of Woodbridge, Manassas Baptist Church in Manassas, Mclean Bible Church, Victory Gospel Church in Manassas, and her own church, Living Faith in Manassas.

Sarah and Michael reside in Nokesville, Virginia, in Prince William County, and they have two boys, Gavin who is fourteen and Shepherd who is four years old.
